About Us

Hill Country Hay is located in Northern Michigan and owned by Paul and Laura Longfellow. The farm's ground has produced quality horse hay for many decades. Horses thrive on quality hay and require little grain supplementation when fed a well-grown hay crop.  Growing premium horse hay requires knowledge, skill, art and science. Hill Country Hay understands the keys to raising a quality crop. Together, Paul and Laura bring fifty years of farming experience to the haying business.

Being horse owners, Paul and Laura know the importance of dust and mold-free hay. They pride themselves in producing naturally-cured hay which is free of chemicals.  Hay buyers must understand the direct relationship found between the growing and harvesting of hay and its resulting quality. Hill Country Hay does not sub-contract another farm's hay thus ensuring customers will receive quality hay as our product is meticulously tended and well-cared for from seed to harvest.

Paul and Laura are members of the USEF ( United States Equestrian Federation) , the  USDF (United States Dressage Federation) and the KWPN of North America.

Product

Hill Country Hay offers Alfalfa Timothy Mix as well as grassy hay. Timothy looks like most other grasses, with upright stalks and slender leaves that tend to sheathe the stalk instead of branching out. Its seed heads are fat and tight. It tolerates winter well and is one of the first grasses to make its charge come spring. It is easy to establish and, given time, will spread and increase in density. Additional information >
